A group of Rivercrest students are on their way to a national competition.
Make 48 held a competition at the Delta School in Wilson March 1-3. Teams from seven area high schools Greene County Tech, Osceola, EPC, Marion, Crosstown in Memphis, West Memphis Christian, and Rivercrest, competed to develop a prototype product for EZ-GO Golf Carts, the event sponsor.
Make48 is a 48-hour competition where teams are presented with a challenge and tasked to build a physical prototype, create a sales sheet, produce a one-minute marketing video and pitch their big idea to a panel of judges.
With access to expert tool technicians and high-tech equipment, competing teams will have the power to build almost anything.
“For this challenge, collaboration is the key to success. Many people have big ideas but few possess the resources to develop a prototype that turns them into reality. To build anything, different skills, materials and equipment must work together to create a final product.”
Make48 allows this process to be achieved with a fun, fast-paced, and educational event. The winning team, which was announced at 5 p.m. Monday live on Make 48 social media accounts, was the team from Rivercrest High School. Team members are Jered Robertson, James Simpson and Jiya Mangat. The team Facilitator was Dave Dagostino.
The Rivercrest team won the first place award of $2,000. The winners will attend a national final in Kansas City in November. The event is filmed and will be aired in two episodes this fall on the This Old Home Maker network.
