ARMOREL— A full day of homecoming festivities didn’t deter Shannon Miller’s Armorel Tigers Friday as they easily defeated the North Pemiscot Mustangs, 54-17.
Armorel jumped out to a 16-2 lead early in the first quarter leading Miller to allow more play from his bench.
The Tigers led 20-2 after the first quarter and led by 29 points at the half.
The Mustangs played with the same five players throughout the game, due to illness. “They (Mustangs) still made the trip despite being short handed due to illnesses,” said the Tigers Miller.
AHS added to their lead in the third quarter as they outscored the Mustangs, 10-2, holding a 49-12 lead heading into the final quarter of play.
All 14 Tigers who saw the court were able to contribute to the Tigers win.
Sophomore guard Aiden Allen led the Tigers in scoring Friday night with seven-points. Junior Ben Braswell, Junior Braylen Williams and sophomore Samaj Slater all chipped in six-points, apiece.
Miller’s Tigers will compete in the Senath-Hornersville Christmas Tournament this week. The Tigers played the Delta C-7 Chargers Monday night and results were unavailable at press deadline.
Since North Pemiscot had to cancel the junior high game due to low numbers, the junior Tigers held a scrimmage. The white jersey Tigers outscored the black jersey Tigers 29-13 in the scrimmage.
“We decided to scrimmage when they cancelled the game,” said Miller. “Our kids needed to play even if it was against each other because they will be off the entire Christmas break.”
The senior high Tigers improved to 5-9 on the season, winning their fourth game in their last five outings.
Following the Senath-Hornersville Christmas event, the Tigers will be off until they return to conference play Jan. 7 at Marked Tree.
